SIP-031: Introducing the Appointments Committee
Over the course of three real-time community workshops the Stacks community has collaboratively formed an Appointments Committee tasked with selecting members of the upcoming potential Treasury Committee, as proposed in SIP-031.

This Appointments Committee was shaped through open discussions, quickly moving to create clear criteria that balanced nominee qualifications and profiles with thoughtful representation. Community participants reviewed dozens of nominees, weighing factors like long-term contributions to Stacks, on-chain engagement, governance experience, subject matter expertise, and overall alignment with Stacks’ mission. The result is a well-deserving committee representing a diverse mix of builders, contributors, and trusted community voices.

If you’d like to view the final Appointments Committee right away, you can find the full list [here]. Each member is accompanied by an introduction and the rationale for their selection, as shared by the community members who attended the workshops.
Summarizing the three workshop sessions
The Stacks Forum thread pertaining to these workshops can be found here.

Session 1 focused on setting the framework. The group established hard requirements like one year of verifiable activity in the ecosystem, a willingness to KYC, and some baseline understanding of Stacks tech, like PoX were all agreed on as minimum thresholds. Beyond that, we surfaced a list of indicators. Things like running a community project, speaking publicly in Spaces, contributing to open-source repos, or holding STX and BTC helped us identify nominees with real skin in the game. We also outlined how to approach diversity across skillsets, tenure, geographies, and community subgroups like NFTs, DeFi, and BNS.

Session 2 focused on identifying which qualities actually differentiate strong nominees. A survey helped prioritize what mattered most: active contribution to accessible Stacks projects, on-chain participation across multiple apps, volunteer work, subject matter expertise, and public engagement. We also aligned on the importance of a diverse mix—across skillsets, tenure, subgroups (like NFTs and DeFi), geography, and background—to ensure broad representation. A Nominee Profile Survey was then shared with candidates ahead of Session 3 to collect structured data.

Session 3 reviewed nominee data from the profile survey and began the selection process. Candidates were discussed in the context of key strengths like development, growth, governance, and business development. These candidates were then weighed against both the core criteria and our representation goals. Unicorn picks that spanned multiple categories stood out, and care was taken to ensure no single group or background dominated the final composition. The result is a diverse and experienced Appointments Committee that reflects the values and breadth of the Stacks ecosystem.

To highlight each pick made by the Stacks community during the workshops, we've dedicated a separate introduction and rationale for every Appointments Committee member below. This includes what makes them unique and the specific areas in which they stand out.
SIP-031 Appointments Committee
Thank you to everyone who participated in selecting the committee — and a big congratulations and thank you to the elected members. Your commitment to the ecosystem is deeply appreciated!
  • Stacks Community Moderator & Content Ambassador
Algorithm.btc, an anonymous but well-known Stacks community member, was recognized for his “in the trenches” mentality. As a moderator for the Stacks Telegram, Discord, and several ecosystem app communities, he plays a central role in keeping the conversation flowing across key channels. A true OG who participated in the original Stacks sale in 2017, he also serves as a Stacks content ambassador on X. His leadership across three of the largest social channels in the Stacks and broader crypto landscape positions him as a key listener and representative of the community — someone well equipped to help appoint the Treasury Committee as outlined in SIP-031.

  • Founder Boom Wallet
Dan Trevino was selected for his outstanding contributions and deep roots in the Stacks ecosystem. Dan founded Boom, the first NFT platform on Stacks, which later became a wallet. He also co-hosts the original Stacks Space "Purple Pill Fridays." He has played a critical role in governance as a lead within the Technical CAB and as a co-author of several SIPs, including SIP-016. Dan was nominated by attendees of the community workshops as a “unicorn pick,” given his wide range of experience that includes marketing, founding businesses, engineering, and governance. He is regarded as a trusted and well-rounded voice in the community and someone who is willing to speak up constructively and critically as needed.

  • Co-Founder Bitflow
Diego Mey earned his spot on the Appointments Committee thanks to his instrumental role in growing Bitflow into one of the leading Bitcoin DeFi protocols. Known for his strong track record in both Web2 and Web3 marketing, Diego leads the Stacks Marketing Working Group and drives key community initiatives, including events and meetups that bring people across the ecosystem closer together.

  • Stacks Ecosystem Governance Program Coordinator & DeGrants Coordinator
Hero Gamer, a long-time anonymous community member, was seen as a clear choice by attendees of the Appointments Committee workshop. Known for his OG status in the Stacks ecosystem, he brings extensive experience in leading and coordinating SIP processes, as well as playing a key role in launching and managing the Decentralized Grants cohorts. Hero Gamer also stood out for his constant presence across the ecosystem, actively engaging in multiple Stacks X Spaces and livestreams each week, and staying closely in tune with the broader community.

  • Contributor AIBTCDEV
Jason is a builder at heart, constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation within the Stacks ecosystem. As a member of the AIBTCDEV team, he is pioneering the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Bitcoin, and Stacks. His deep involvement in the ecosystem dates back to 2020, when he led working groups and authored content on the Stacks 2 Testnet. Jason was elected for his pivotal role as Chairperson of the Stacks Governance Consideration Advisory Board, as well as his coordination of the Bitcoin AI working group. Workshop attendees emphasized his innovative developer mindset and extensive experience across advisory boards and community initiatives as key reasons for his selection.

  • Co-Founder LunarCrush
Joe Vezzani, founder of social data platform LunarCrush, was appointed for his combination of crypto-native insight and business development expertise. He quite literally helped send Stacks NFTs and sBTC to the moon through LunarCrush’s Nakamoto1 treasury hunt. Alongside his experience as an investor in various crypto projects, Joe’s deep involvement in business development at LunarCrush and his commitment to the Stacks community made him a standout choice among workshop attendees.

  • Co-Founder Zest Protocol
Tycho Onnasch stood out as a choice during the Appointments Committee workshop thanks to his contributions to multiple top applications in Zest Protocol and Stacking DAO, his active role in pushing all of DeFi forward on Stacks, as well as his early contributions to the Stacks community token space. In addition to building, Tycho has invested in multiple Stacks applications, demonstrating both strategic insight and real skin in the game. His background in investor relations and long-term commitment to the ecosystem further reinforced his selection.
Alternates & Alternates Strategy
During the workshop, the group also selected alternatives for the Appointments Committee should any primary nominee need to drop out for any reason. With this, we picked a specific alternate for each nominee to ensure that the overall diversity of representation and 'mix' of the group would not be impacted if there were drop outs.
Thank you and congratulations!
Congratulations to the members, the alternates, and our deepest thanks to the many who participated in the Appointments Committee workshops, taking part in this important selection process for SIP-031.
Next Steps
This list will be added to the SIP on Github ahead of the vote opening on June 25th. The Appointments Committee will meet in the next 2 weeks and begin to form their process and take early feedback from members of the workshop and community. A new thread from the Appointments Committee will be created on the forum where a Stacks Foundation team member will ensure notes are captured so the community can follow the committees progress.
