Governance Tooling Update: Introducing the Stacks SIP Tracker
We are pleased to introduce the Stacks SIP Tracker, a new community governance tool developed in collaboration with the Zero Authority team. Following SIP-031, the Foundation is doubling down on governance systems, revisiting existing infrastructure to identify opportunities for improvement and evolution. The long term vision is a suite of self-sustaining governance systems that are intuitive to navigate and open to all.

A core component of Stacks governance is the Stacks Improvement Proposal (SIP) process. Through SIPs, the community introduces concepts for review; when these proposals involve consensus-breaking changes, they are put to a vote by STX holders. This process is essential for implementing optimizations and network upgrades in a truly decentralized manner.

The new SIP Tracker centralizes the proposal process, offering the transparency and accessibility needed for community members to engage more deeply with Stacks governance.

SIP Tracker Walkthrough
The SIP dashboard home page offers a quick glance at the SIP landscape, showing a count of all active drafts, all ratified drafts, SIPs pending activation, SIPs in the "accepted" phase, and rejected SIPs.
From there, an index of all past and pending SIPs allows anyone to learn about each SIP in detail and take various actions, such as:
  • Review SIPs currently in the draft phase and join the ongoing dialogue surrounding their development.
  • Learn about past SIPs by reading content, related discussions, and reviewing vote outcomes when applicable.
  • Utilize Quick Links to explore technical documentation and the fundamentals of the SIP process.
  • Access direct links to the Community Forum and GitHub, the primary hubs for technical peer reviews and community discussion.
  • Easily review vote status and outcomes by clicking into each SIP for details.
  • Use the tracker to navigate directly to GitHub and begin drafting your own SIP.
Meet the Community Builders: Zero Authority
The SIP Tracker was built for the community by community builders. The Zero Authority team is a group of dedicated ecosystem contributors who believe that decentralized networks require neutral, community-driven tools to thrive.

The Zero Authority Team has been part of the Stacks community since before Stacks Mainnet launched in 2021. Since then, the team has built practical, community-first coordination tools that help organizations, teams, and creators work more productively. The protocol enables transparent collaboration and reputation built on real contributions through onchain participation via gigs, bounties, quests, and governance.
Looking Ahead
Last year, the Foundation partnered with the Ballot.gg team (the creators of BlockSurvey) to deliver an upgraded voting platform, which was introduced alongside the community vote on Clarity 4. We are now channeling further efforts into the Stacks Forum to enhance usability and increase the visibility of community updates; this includes regular meeting recaps posted weekly, and often daily.

Moving forward, we will refine the SIP Tracker based on community feedback while prioritizing high-impact governance tooling projects requested by our members. The Zero Authority team will continue their collaboration with the Foundation and the Stacks Endowment to develop a Grants Tracker. This platform will centralize information on active and awarded grants, providing much-needed visibility for projects and ensuring a consistent approach to grant management.

Simultaneously, work continues on updates to SIP-000, which aim to streamline the guiding principles of the SIP lifecycle. In the near term, the community can also expect the first iteration of an Ecosystem Directory, a resource designed to quickly connect anyone to the right team, program, or resource for their specific needs.

Ultimately, these tools are designed to lower the barrier to entry. Whether you are a long-time STX holder or a new builder, the SIP Tracker ensures you have a seat at the table and the information necessary to help shape the future of Stacks.
