Introducing the Grants Ambassador Program
by Will Corcoran on January 28, 2022
We're exploring paths for the next evolution of the Stacks Foundation Grants Program and need community leaders to help drive the process. For further background on this process, please see this post.
✨ Ambassadors Will Drive the Next Evolution of the Stacks Foundation Grant Program
The impetus for exploring where Stacks Grants can go in the future are the themes inherent to the program since its inception: Decentralization, transparency, and community.

We're beginning our explorations focused on how the Grants program might become a DAO, as that structure would seem to lend itself well to the aforementioned themes. You can read more about this here.

As outlined in that introductory piece, it is the Grants Ambassadors that will drive the progression of the program going forward. This piece will further introduce the role of the Ambassadors, their makeup, and the process for becoming one.
⛑ Ambassador Overview
Ambassadors will function as part mentor, part project manager, part consultant, and part visionary. Candidates should be motivated self-starters. Candidates should default presenting a solution to a problem - not just the problem. Candidates must be enthusiastic about collaboration, versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity, and excellent communicators.

We are looking for 6-12 Ambassadors for this program. Applicants should be:
  • Representatives from the Stacks and/or Bitcoin community.
  • Proficient in one of the three areas: Technical, Design, and Community.
  • Incredibly knowledgeable about Web 3 and Crypto.
Ambassador Mindset
Ideally, candidates will also be knowledgeable of and/or willing to learn about DAOs and Web 3 Business Models. Having previous or provable experience working on Web 3 / Crypto projects in a Technical, Design, or Community capacity is preferred.
Ambassador Types
We want all of the dApps, tooling, and projects built on Stacks to be secure, decentralized, high-performance, provide an amazing user experience and social value. We want the 6-12 Ambassadors to compliment each other so that the sum is greater than the whole of the parts. As such, we are looking for three types of Ambassadors: Technical, Design, and Community.
Lastly, this is non-negotiable, all candidates must have a sincere passion for Stacks and Bitcoin!
Ambassador Commitment and Compensation
From the perspective of time commitment and compensation - we have crafted the Ambassador program to provide applicants with a nice amount of modularity. This position can be approached as either a part-time compliment to another project or a full-time position. Since we are a decentralized community working around the world, applicants should be comfortable working asynchronously. However, we would like to have some structured time for us to all meet together. Tentatively, that time is 9am to 11am EST on some Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. If this is not possible due to other commitments or your time zone, please explain your availability in your application and we can try to accommodate you.

All Ambassador meetings will occur on Discord so applicants should be highly familiar with the Stacks Discord server. Ambassadors are expected to commit a minimum of 20 hours a week, including meeting time, meeting prep, and workshops.

  • Compensation for Ambassadors approaching this as a part-time position are eligible for up to $1,500 USD (paid in STX) a week.
  • Ambassadors approaching this as a full-time position receive the payment noted above and are eligible for up to an additional $5,000 USD (paid in STX) a month, awarded through the grants program.

Example $5,000 Grants For Full-Time Ambassadors:
These $5,000 grants are awarded following the same grants process that exists today and are not guaranteed income. Ambassadors should actively communicate with the Grants team about these monthly grant opportunities.
